Victory Conditions¶
The game is played over a series of turns until one player wins. There are two active win conditions and one advanced condition in development.
| Victory | Trigger | Checked during |
|---|---|---|
| Supremacy | Control every Territory while Leading in Morale | Attrition Phase, step 2 |
| Attrition | A Territory Threshold stays met for two consecutive turns | Attrition Phase, step 4 |
| Objective (advanced) | Complete a set of Objective cards | TBD |
Supremacy Victory¶
A player wins by Supremacy if, at the Attrition Phase, they are Leading in Morale and Control every Territory card in play.
Controlling a Territory card requires a friendly or allied Troop adjacent to each side of that card. On a standard playing card that means four sides — top, bottom, left, and right.
Attrition Victory¶
Attrition Victory is the game's stalemate breaker. Two armies that grind each other down around a Territory cannot dig in forever — the bodies decide it.
Every Territory card has a Territory Threshold value. Whenever a Troop is destroyed while adjacent to a Territory, it is placed beneath that Territory and counts 1 toward its Threshold, no matter who controlled it.
How it resolves:
- During the Attrition Phase, if the cards beneath a Territory meet or exceed its Threshold, a Threshold Check triggers.
- Both players then have one final turn to either take Control of the Territory, or reduce its Threshold back below the limit.
- If the Threshold is still met at the end of that turn — that is, met for two consecutive turns — the game ends.
Who wins: the player controlling the most sides of the Territory. If that is tied, the player Leading in Morale wins.
Reducing a Threshold
Local Favor reduces a Threshold by 2, and a Smuggled Goods Token reduces it by 1. Declining a Charge to claim Local Favor is often the correct play when you are behind on sides but the clock is running.
Objective Victory (Advanced)¶
Objective cards may be added to a player's deck as an alternative win condition. A player wins if they complete the required number of Objective values on the Territory cards in play.
WIP
Objective Victory rules are still in development. One alternative under consideration: completing Objective cards equal to a Territory's value instead reduces the number of adjacent sides required to Control that Territory.
