Territory Cards

Territory cards are the ground both armies are fighting over. They are placed in the center of the table between the players during Setup and never move.

Players agree before the game how many Territory cards are in play (1 or more). Each additional Territory card raises every player's deck size limit by 10 cards.

Territory Abilities

A Territory card may be neutral — carrying no abilities at all — or it may have game abilities that apply to every player while it is in play. Some Territories also carry the Garrison Quirk.

Controlling a Territory

To Control a Territory card you must have a friendly or allied Troop adjacent to each side of that card. On a standard playing card that means four sides — top, bottom, left, and right.

Controlling every Territory card in play while Leading in Morale wins the game by Supremacy Victory.

Territory Threshold

Every Territory card has a Territory Threshold value. The Threshold is the game's stalemate breaker: as bodies pile up around a Territory, the fight over it is forced to a conclusion.

Building the Threshold. Whenever a Troop is destroyed while adjacent to a Territory card, place that Troop beneath the Territory card. Each card beneath the Territory counts 1 toward its Threshold, regardless of which player controlled it.

Reaching the Threshold. Once the number of cards beneath a Territory meets or exceeds its Threshold value, a Threshold Check occurs during the Attrition Phase. Both players then have one final turn to either take Control of the Territory or reduce its Threshold back below the limit.

If neither happens by the end of that turn, the game ends in an Attrition Victory.

Reducing the Threshold. Several effects remove cards from beneath a Territory or otherwise lower its Threshold count:

Effect Reduction
Local Favor (evergreen) −2
Smuggled Goods Token −1

WIP

Additional cards that remove cards from beneath a Territory are in development. The Threshold value printed on each Territory card is still being tuned in playtesting.

Objective Cards (Advanced)

Objective cards may be added to a player's deck as an alternative win condition, completed against the Territory cards in play. See Objective Victory.
