Riposte

While resolving a Charge, a Troop with Riposte may fight a second enemy Troop at its full Vigor value, if it survives the initial combat.

Rules

  • Riposte triggers during Combat Resolution, after the Troop's first combat has been resolved.
  • The Troop must have survived that first exchange. A destroyed Troop does not Riposte.
  • The second fight is against a different enemy Troop, which must still be adjacent.
  • The second fight uses the Troop's full Vigor — it is not divided or reduced.

Riposte sidesteps damage splitting

Normally a Troop adjacent to two enemies must divide its Vigor between them. Riposte is the exception: fight the first enemy, survive, then hit the second at full strength. A Riposte Troop wedged between two enemies is doing roughly double the work of anything else on the board.

Notes

Riposte rewards putting a durable Troop somewhere it will be surrounded. Pair it with healing or high Vitality so it reliably survives the first exchange — the entire value of the Quirk is contingent on that.
