Equip / Consume

Equip and Consume are Gambit ability types. Using one discards the card — but not immediately.

Timing

  1. Play the Gambit into your Homeland during your Muster Phase.
  2. Wait. The ability usually cannot be activated the turn it is played.
  3. Activate the ability on a later turn and resolve its effect.
  4. Pay the Gambit's Provision cost during that turn's Attrition Phase.
  5. Discard the Gambit at the end of that Attrition Phase — after the cost is paid, not before.

You still pay for it

Activating an Equip or Consume ability does not let you dodge the bill. The card is paid for on the turn you use it, and only then discarded. If you cannot pay, you discard an additional card as the Gambit penalty.

Equip vs Consume

Effect
Equip Usually a persistent buff applied to a Troop — gear and weapons.
Consume Usually an immediate one-time effect — supplies spent all at once.

Mechanically both follow the same timing above.

Notes

The one-turn delay and the pay-then-discard order are what keep Gambits honest. While a Gambit sits unused in your Homeland it is generating Provision supply — so a Gambit you never activate is functionally a Forage. The moment you use it, you lose that supply and owe its cost in the same Attrition Phase. Time it carefully.
