Burrow (X)

Burrow is a Quirk that allows a Troop to go underground — hiding it from view and protecting it until the moment is right to strike.

Rules

  1. A Troop with Burrow may be played face-down into your Vanguard. While Burrowed, ignore this Troop's Provision cost and all stat values.
  2. A Troop cannot un-Burrow the same turn it was Burrowed.
  3. During the Warfare Phase, a Burrowed Troop may un-Burrow and declare a Charge, ignoring who is currently Leading in Morale.
  4. Recovering a Lost Burrowed Troop costs 0 Provisions, but the Troop returns to the Vanguard un-Burrowed and must pay increased Burrow costs.

Notes

  • Burrow is not the same as Concealed. A Burrowed Troop is face-down with no stats and no cost; a Concealed Troop is face-up and fully active, just hard to hit.
  • Burrowed Troops that un-Burrow and are defeated before the Attrition Phase must still be provisioned that turn (see Troop Wages Rule).
  • Worse: a defeated Burrowed Troop that un-Burrowed this turn is paid before your other Troops, and if you cannot cover it you discard a card. Un-Burrowing into a Charge you lose is punished twice.
  • The Tracker Quirk allows Troops to target Burrowed enemies with Shotte or Charge attacks.

WIP — Burrow cost

Burrow is likely to carry a +2 Provision surcharge over the Troop's printed cost. Not yet confirmed; the value X in "Burrow (X)" is still being tuned.
