Troops

Troops are the bread and butter of your Army. They are played onto the battlefield in your Vanguard and form the core of your fighting force.

Stats

  • Vigor — The strength of the Troop. A Troop with 2 Vigor deals 2 damage in battle. A wounded Troop still deals its full Vigor damage.
  • Vitality — The Troop's health, and the damage needed to destroy it. Damage is persistent; Troops can only be healed by card effects. At 0 Vitality the Troop is defeated and removed.
  • Morale — The Troop's mental willpower. Contributes to your army's cumulative Morale Value, which determines who is Leading in Morale each turn.
  • Provision — The cost of the card. Costs are not paid when the card is played; they are paid every Attrition Phase.

Troop Types

Some Troops carry additional type keywords that abilities and Quirks key off:

  • Pike Troops — The common melee weapon of Erda, fielded by foot soldiers and militia.
  • Shotte Troops — Blackpowder weaponry. Expensive in this era, but increasingly common on the battlefield. Usually carry the Shotte Quirk.
  • Cavalry — Mounted Troops, often with Shock-Charge.
  • Officer(Claw Empire) Unlocks the Orders Deck while on the battlefield.
  • Partizan(Paw Coalition) Rebel militia; keys off Paw guerrilla Quirks.

The Pike Triangle

Troop types beat each other in a rock-paper-scissors loop, resolved through Morale:

Troop Type Beats Loses To
Pike Cavalry Shotte
Shotte Pike Cavalry
Cavalry Shotte Pike

Pike Buffs by Faction

Pike is not itself an ability — but each faction has its own Gambits and abilities that buff Pike Troops in a different direction:

Faction Pike buff
Claw Empire Increased damage
Paw Coalition Increased movement and Morale
Hirelings Citizenry buff (WIP)
The Weald Armour buff

Entering the Battlefield

When a Troop enters the battlefield it is still mustering. On that turn it may not:

  • Move
  • Use card abilities
  • Use Shotte

Renowned Troops

Some Troops are more unique, better trained, or legendary characters. These Troops often have strong unique abilities but are more expensive to field in battle. Only one copy of a specific Renowned Troop version may be on the battlefield at once.
